It takes a brave candidate to ditch one of the two major parties in the middle of an election. Decorated U.S. Marine Nathan Fletcher, a former “rising GOP star” in the California State Assembly, left the Republican Party to become an Independent candidate for mayor of San Diego. Let’s hope this is another national trend that starts in California.
